Trust Jesus to Be Saved

Children's church (3-6) · leader guide · Anchor: Matthew 17:9-13· preview

From the sermon Following the Forerunner to Death

Story Time

Long ago, God sent John to tell people that Jesus was coming. But some people did not know who John was, and they were mean to him. Jesus said He would die too, to save us from sin. If we trust Jesus, we are safe with God forever.

But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands. — Matthew 17:12-13

Motion and Song

Pat your chest three times and say, 'I trust Jesus!' Then sing to the tune of 'Jesus Loves Me': 'Jesus died to save me too, I will trust Him, yes I do!'

Yes or No Question

Did Jesus die on the cross to save us from sin?

Coloring Page

Draw a picture of Jesus with His arms open wide because He loves you and saves you.

Leader Notes

Delivery tone: Warm, gentle, and enthusiastic. Use a calm story-time voice and big smiles. Show wonder when you say Jesus saves us.

Duration: 5 minutes.

Expected answer: The child should say 'Yes.' If they say 'No,' gently correct them: 'Yes, Jesus did die on the cross to save us, because He loves us so much.'

If a child gets restless: Invite them to hold the Bible, stand up and do the motion with you, or point to the block-quote words while you read. Keep the group moving by doing the motion together twice.
