All Promises Find Their Yes
Saturday · Anchor: 2Cor.1.20· preview (not yet released by the daily cron)
From the sermon The Doctrine of God
For all the promises of God find their yes in Him. That is why it is through Him we utter our Amen to God for His glory.
Every attribute of God that David celebrates in Psalm 145 points us to Christ. God's greatness reveals our need for a mediator. God's mighty works culminate in the cross and the empty tomb. God's goodness is displayed in the kindness that leads us to repentance. God's sovereignty secures our salvation. God's covenant faithfulness is fulfilled in Jesus.
Christ is the center. He is the hinge on which everything turns. All of God's promises — every word spoken in the Old Testament, every hope whispered by the prophets, every longing of the human heart — find their yes in Him.
So when we bless God for His greatness, we bless Him for sending Christ. When we bless God for His mighty works, we bless Him for the work of the cross. When we bless God for His goodness, we bless Him for the kindness shown to us in the gospel. When we bless God for His sovereignty, we bless Him for the security we have in Christ. When we bless God for His covenant faithfulness, we bless Him for the One who keeps every promise.
This is why we gather on Sunday. This is why we sing. This is why we preach the gospel. Because Christ unites us to this God who is worthy of all praise. And because of Christ, we can approach this great God with confidence, knowing that we are not rejected but received, not condemned but forgiven, not abandoned but kept.
So as you prepare for worship tomorrow, let this be your posture: gratitude. Gratitude for a God who is great and good and sovereign and faithful. And gratitude for the Son who makes it possible for us to know Him.
Pause and consider
As you prepare for worship, what is one specific way Christ has made the promises of God real to you? How will you respond in praise?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, all of God's promises find their yes in You. Thank You for being the mediator, the Savior, the fulfillment of every hope. Prepare my heart for worship tomorrow, and let my life be a continual Amen to Your glory. Amen.
