From the sermon The Doctrine of God
Leader Notes
Duration: 5 minutes
Tone: Warm, gentle, and enthusiastic. Use a storytelling voice that invites wonder. Speak slowly and pause between sentences to let ideas settle.
If a child gets restless: Invite them to stand and do the motions with you again, or ask them to help you count good things on their fingers.
Anchor Scripture
They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness, and shall sing aloud of your righteousness. The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. The Lord is good to all, and His mercy is over all that He has made.
— Psalm 145:7-9
Story Time: God is Good
Read aloud:
God made everything! He made the sun that warms us, the food we eat, and the people who love us. God is good, and He does good things. Every day, God gives us gifts — like hugs, and smiles, and yummy snacks. Even when we make mistakes, God is kind and patient. He loves us so much! That is why we say 'Thank You, God!' and praise Him.
Motion Activity
Say to the children:
Let's show how big God's goodness is! Stand up with me.
- Stretch your arms wide: 'God's love is THIS big!'
- Point up to the sky: 'God made the sun!'
- Pat your tummy: 'God gives us food!'
- Hug yourself: 'God loves us!'
Now let's all say together: 'God is good!' (Repeat 2-3 times with enthusiasm.)
Yes/No Question
Ask the children:
Does God give us good things every day?
Expected answer: Yes!
Leader note: If a child says 'no' or seems unsure, gently affirm: 'Yes! God gives us the sun, our families, our food — so many good things. God is always good.'
Coloring Activity
Say to the children:
Now you get to draw a picture! Draw something good that God made — maybe the sun, or a flower, or your family. While you color, remember: God is good, and He does good things!
Leader note: Provide crayons and blank paper. Circulate and ask each child what they are drawing. Affirm their answers warmly: 'Yes! God made that, and it is very good!'
Closing
Say:
God is so good to us. Let's thank Him right now. Everyone close your eyes and fold your hands.
Pray:
'Dear God, thank You for being so good. Thank You for all the good things You give us. We love You. Amen.'
Dismiss with a smile.
