I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. — Psalm 145:1-3
David wrote this psalm to praise God for who He is and what He has done. Let's explore why God is worthy of our worship!
Question 1: What Does 'Unsearchable' Mean?
Psalm 145:3 says God's greatness is 'unsearchable.' What do you think that word means? Can you think of something in your life that seems too big or amazing to fully understand? How is God even bigger than that?
Question 2: Telling God's Story
Verses 4-6 talk about one generation telling the next generation about God's mighty works. What is one story about God (from the Bible or from your own life) that you could tell a younger kid? Why is it important to keep telling these stories?
Read this passage too: Deuteronomy 6:6-7 — 'And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.'
Question 3: What Does God's Goodness Look Like?
Psalm 145:8-9 says God is 'gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.' Think about your week. What are three good things God gave you (like food, family, friends, or fun)? How does knowing God is good change the way you see those gifts?
Question 4: God Is in Control
Verses 11-13 remind us that God's kingdom lasts forever and He rules over everything. When something in your life feels scary or out of control (like a hard test, a friendship problem, or something at home), how can remembering that God is sovereign (in control) help you?
Question 5: Jesus Shows Us Everything
The sermon said that all of God's greatness, works, goodness, power, and faithfulness are shown most clearly in Jesus. How does Jesus show us what God is like? What is one thing about Jesus that makes you want to praise God today?
