Generosity Without Strings

From the sermon Unmovable
Verse five tells us this person *does not put out his money at interest* and *does not take a bribe against the innocent.* At first glance, this might seem like a random addition to the list. But it's not. It's about how we handle power and resources.
In Israel, charging interest to a fellow Israelite was forbidden. Why? Because lending was supposed to be an act of mercy, not an opportunity for profit. If your brother was in need, you helped him — not to get richer, but to keep him standing.
And taking a bribe? That's about using your position to twist justice for personal gain. It's the opposite of integrity. It's putting a price tag on what should be priceless.
So what does this have to do with dwelling in God's presence? Everything. Because God is generous without strings. He doesn't lend us grace and then charge interest. He doesn't take bribes to look the other way. He gives freely, and He judges justly.
The person who can stand before God is someone whose heart mirrors God's heart — generous toward those in need, incorruptible in matters of justice.
And once again, we see Jesus. He had no place to lay His head, yet He gave everything. He could have called down legions of angels, yet He refused every shortcut, every bribe, every temptation to compromise. He was generous to the end, and just to the core.
This is the King we need. Not one who uses us for His gain, but one who spends Himself for ours.
Pause and consider
How do you handle money and influence? Are there places where you've been tempted to use them for personal advantage rather than for the good of others?
Prayer
Lord, You gave everything and asked nothing in return. Teach me to hold my resources with open hands, to be generous without expecting repayment, and to seek justice without compromise. Amen.
