Leader Overview
Duration: 5 minutes
Tone: Warm, gentle, and wonder-filled. Use simple words and short sentences. Speak slowly and pause between ideas. If a child gets restless, invite them to stand and do the motions with you, or ask them to help you 'build' with their hands.
Main Idea: Long ago, people tried to be big and important without God. God mixed up their words so they couldn't understand each other. But Jesus brings people back together!
Story Time
Then they said, 'Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves.' — Genesis 11:4
Long, long ago, all the people spoke the same words. They said, 'Let's build a big, big tower! We will be so important!' They forgot about God. So God mixed up their words. Now they couldn't understand each other! They stopped building and went to different places.
But God had a plan. He sent Jesus! Now people from everywhere can understand the good news about Jesus. We can all be friends together in God's family.
Motion Activity
Let's pretend to build a tower!
- Stack your hands up high, high, high! (Reach arms up)
- Oh no! God says stop! (Shake head gently)
- Now spread out! (Arms wide, turn in a circle)
- But Jesus brings us back! (Bring hands to heart, then reach out to a friend)
Leader note: Repeat 2-3 times. Encourage giggles and movement. This burns energy and reinforces the story.
Yes/No Question
Does Jesus want us to be friends with people who are different from us?
Expected answer: Yes!
If they say no or seem unsure: That's okay! Jesus loves everyone, and He wants us to love everyone too. We can all be in God's family together!
Coloring Page
Draw a picture of lots of different people holding hands together, because Jesus brings us together!
Leader note: Provide crayons and blank paper. As they color, quietly remind them: 'Jesus loves all of us. We are all friends in God's family.'
Closing Prayer (Leader reads aloud)
Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus. Thank You that we can all be friends together. Help us to love everyone. Amen.
