Forgiven Much, Love Much

Reflect and pray

Jesus once told a woman who had been forgiven much that she loved much. The sermon drew a straight line from that truth to our daily obedience. In John 14:21, Jesus says that whoever has His commands and keeps them is the one who loves Him. But love does not come from willpower or from a stricter schedule of spiritual disciplines. It comes from seeing the depth of our own forgiveness until we are moved to affection. The elders long for the congregation to grow spiritually, and the path is not more rules but deeper wonder at the cross. When you realize that you owed ten thousand talents and were not merely pardoned but adopted into the family, gratitude overflows into obedience without coercion.

John 1:12 reminds us that to all who received Him, He gave the right to become children of God. You were not just a criminal released from court and sent on your way; you were brought home for dinner, given a seat at the table, and clothed in the family name. That identity changes everything about how you relate to other people in the household. When you see yourself as a son or daughter who was rescued from certain destruction, forgiving your brother or sister becomes a family resemblance rather than a burdensome duty imposed from the outside. You are not doing it to earn points or avoid punishment. You are doing it because you have the same Father, and you both smell like the grace He poured out on you.

Today, spend a few minutes meditating on your adoption. Think about the moment when the King wiped your debt and then welcomed you into His house with open arms. Let that reality warm you from the inside out. As the sermon urged, dwell on the depth of your forgiveness until your love for God and for others increases. The chain is simple: forgiven much, love much; love much, obey much. And it all starts with letting the cross stun you again until your heart sings with gratitude.
