Paul quotes Genesis in Ephesians and then stops to catch his breath. 'This is a profound mystery,' he writes, 'but I am talking about Christ and the church.' Every marriage that follows God's design is a living sermon. It preaches the gospel to the neighbors, to the children, and to the spouses themselves.

That is a staggering thought. When you love your wife sacrificially, you are acting out the love of Jesus for His bride. When you respect your husband, you are displaying the trust the church places in her Savior. Your patience, your forgiveness, your quiet service in the kitchen or the garage or the hospital room, it all becomes a visible parable of an invisible grace. The world does not need more arguments about marriage. It needs more marriages that look like Jesus.

Of course, this feels impossible. We are not Jesus. We are tired, selfish, and easily irritated. But the mystery Paul speaks of is not a demand that you be perfect. It is a reminder of what is really happening. Your marriage is not merely a social arrangement for mutual comfort. It is a theater of redemption. When you choose to stay, to forgive, to lay down your preference, you are participating in the great drama of salvation.

So today, do not despise the small moments. The way you speak during breakfast, the tone you use when you are late, the decision to listen one more time, these are not small things. They are the brushstrokes of a larger picture. Ask the Lord to help you see your marriage through His eyes. You are not just husband and wife. You are a signpost pointing to a greater love.
