Story Time

'Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the Kingdom of heaven.' — Matthew 19:14

One day, some mommies and daddies brought their children to see Jesus. The friends of Jesus said, 'No, go away!' But Jesus smiled big and said, 'Let the children come to me!' He laid His hands on them and prayed because He loves when kids trust Him.

Motion

Pretend you are a little bird hopping to Jesus. Hop three times and then open your arms wide like Jesus giving a big hug. Say, 'Jesus loves me!'

Leader Notes

Delivery tone: Warm, slow, and cheerful. Use an inviting voice and lots of eye contact. Sit on the floor with the children if possible.

Duration: 5 minutes total.

If a child gets restless: Gently place a hand on their shoulder, invite them to hop with you during the motion, or ask them to hold the crayon for the coloring page. Do not force sitting still; let them wiggle during the story.

Expected answer: The child should say 'Yes' or nod. If they say 'No,' gently correct by repeating, 'Jesus says, Let the children come to me!'

Redirect language: If a child interrupts the story, say: 'I love your excitement! Let us hop together when it is time.' If they wander, ask: 'Will you show me your hug for Jesus?'

Time estimates: Scripture quote and story — 2 minutes. Motion — 1 minute. Question — 30 seconds. Coloring instruction and transition — 1.5 minutes.
