Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ
Reflect and pray
Paul revalues his entire resume as loss because knowing Christ outshines every achievement. The comparison is not close; former gains become refuse next to Jesus. Examine what you are tempted to call gain—reputation, security, pedigree—and place it beside the value of Christ. Pray that the Spirit would show you the surpassing worth of knowing Jesus so that letting go feels like freedom rather than deprivation.
