Giving Up to Get

## 1. What Did the Disciples Give Up? > Then Peter said in reply, 'See, we have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?' Jesus said to them, 'Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first.' > — Matthew 19:27-30

Peter told Jesus that the disciples had left everything to follow Him. What is something you really love—like a hobby, a sport, or time on your devices—that would be hard to step away from if Jesus wanted you to put Him first?

## 2. What Will You Get? Jesus promised His followers thrones in His Kingdom and a reward one hundred times better than what they left behind. How does knowing that following Jesus brings an amazing, eternal reward change the way you think about hard choices you face at school or home?

## 3. Who Sits on the Thrones? The sermon said that the disciples were not perfect heroes, but Jesus promised them stellar positions in the new age anyway. Do you ever feel like you are not good enough to be used by God? How does Jesus' promise to His followers encourage you when you feel ordinary or like you mess up too much?

## 4. First or Last? Jesus ended by saying, 'But many who are first will be last, and the last first.' In your world, it often seems like the strongest, richest, or most popular person wins. How is Jesus' upside-down Kingdom different from the way your friends or favorite shows think about winning?

## 5. What Can You Send Ahead? > Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ. > — Philippians 3:8

The pastor said, 'You can't take it with you, but you can send it on ahead.' This week, what is one practical way you can give up your time, energy, or possessions to serve Jesus and store up treasure in heaven?
