2nd Corinthians 521 says God made him who knew no sin become sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God. Jesus Christ commits no sin, but he's treated as a Sinner on the cross.

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Reflect and pray
God made the sinless Christ to be sin on behalf of sinners so that sinners might become the righteousness of God. This is the heart of the gospel: an exchange we could never earn and can never lose. Jesus did not come merely to set an example; he came to accomplish salvation. As you pray, trust again in this finished work. Do not try to establish your own righteousness, but rest entirely in his. Ask the Father to deepen your assurance that you are fully accepted because you are clothed in his Son.
