The True Prophet

Thursday · Anchor: Deut.18.22

From the sermon Foretelling Future Trouble

From the sermon

When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come true, does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously.

Scripture · Deut.18.22

when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come true or come to pass, that is a word that the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously.

Reflect and pray

The Lord demands perfect accuracy from anyone who claims to speak in his name. One failed prophecy marks a false prophet. Jesus, however, foretold his betrayal, his condemnation, his crucifixion, and his resurrection, and every word happened exactly as he said. This proves he is the Prophet Moses promised, the one to whom we must listen. In a world of competing voices, anchor yourself today to Christ alone. Ask God to help you hear his voice clearly and to obey him as the true and faithful Prophet who cannot lie.
