From the sermon Foretelling Future Trouble
And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, 'See, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.'
What Makes Jesus a True Prophet?
Jesus told His disciples exactly what would happen in Jerusalem—He would be arrested, hurt, killed, and then rise again. Since everything happened just as He predicted, what does that tell you about whether you can trust Jesus when He makes other promises to you?
Why Did Jesus Keep Walking Toward Trouble?
Jesus knew He would be mocked, flogged, and crucified, yet He still set His face toward Jerusalem. Why do you think He chose to suffer instead of turning back, and what does that show you about His love?
Who Was Jesus Dying For?
The sermon taught that Jesus died in our place to take the punishment we deserve. Read what God's Word says:
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
— Romans 5:8
How does knowing that Jesus took your punishment change the way you feel about your own sin and about God's love for you?
What Should You Do With Hard Words From Jesus?
The disciples did not argue this time; they listened even though the news was scary. When you read something in the Bible that is hard to accept, what is a better way to respond than ignoring it or pretending it is not true?
How Will You Live for the Prophet and Savior?
Jesus is the true Prophet who keeps every promise, and He is the Savior who died so you could be forgiven. What is one specific way you can obey Him or tell someone else about Him this week?
