God's Works Displayed

Friday · Anchor: John.9.3

From the sermon

Jesus answered it was not that this man sinned or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.

Scripture · John.9.3

Jesus answered, 'It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.'

Reflect and pray

It is easy to assume that suffering is a punishment for sin, but Jesus corrects this thinking. The man's blindness was not a curse; it was a canvas for God's glory. While God does discipline His children, not every hardship is personal retribution. Sometimes hardship exists so that the works of God might be displayed through His mercy and power. Rather than analyzing your troubles to find fault, ask the Lord to reveal His purposes and to display His grace in the midst of them.
