Hosanna in the Highest

Tuesday · Anchor: Ps.118.25

From the sermon A Royal Prophet

From the sermon

And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting Hosanna to the son of David. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest This procession is not merely Jesus going into town and everybody's on the sidelines watching him.

Scripture · Ps.118.25

Save us, we pray, O LORD! O LORD, we pray, give us success!

Reflect and pray

The crowds shouted words from Psalm 118, crying Hosanna—save us, we pray. Yet their hearts pictured a political rescue from Rome rather than the deeper rescue from sin that Jesus came to accomplish. It is easy to come to Jesus asking for comfort, success, or relief while missing what we most need. Let the words Hosanna shape your prayer today, asking the Lord to save you at the level of your soul, not merely your circumstances.
