Worship Is Serious

Tuesday · Anchor: Lev.10.1

From the sermon Lord of the Temple

From the sermon

But it sets a tone about God and worship and how serious worship is to God, that he would be honored, He would be sanctified, He would be regarded as holy, and he would be glorified.

Scripture · Lev.10.1

Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it and laid incense on it and offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, which he had not commanded them. (Leviticus 10:1)

Reflect and pray

This is a sobering verse. Two priests offered fire before the Lord that He had not commanded. The phrase 'which he had not commanded them' is worth lingering over. God cares how He is approached. As the quote above says, He is to be honored, sanctified, regarded as holy, and glorified. Take a quiet moment to reflect on the holiness of God. Pray that you would come before Him with reverence, approaching Him as He has commanded and not as you would prefer.
